Welcome!

A child and a lady are strolling through an apple orchard. The child sees a delicious red apple on a tree and asks for it. The lady considers picking the apple and giving it to the child. She ponders for a moment.

Then, the lady lifts the child higher, lowers the branch from where the apple hangs and lets the child pick the apple. The child is joyful and exclaims, “I did it! I picked the apple all by myself!”

In the Montessori environment, the goal is to have children experience this feeling of competence and independence in each task they accomplish.

The name “Effica” is derived from the term “self-efficacy” which means an inner belief that one is capable of accomplishing desired goals. Guided by intrinsic motivation, children pursue activities for the mere joy of accomplishing them. The accumulation of such profound experiences provides a sound academic foundation and enhances a child’s love of learning, and of life itself.

Effica, located in Dayton, Ohio, offers preschool and kindergarten education Monday through Friday from 9am-12pm. Our school is a three-year academic program for children ages 2 1/2 - 6 years old. Traditionally, the first two years serve as preschool, preparing young children with the foundation needed to interact with other children, teachers, and learning materials in a school environment. The third year typically serves as kindergarten, in which children refine skills and concepts, and begin to work with more advanced materials. Montessori kindergarten programs are nationally recognized, and upon completion, students are eligible to enter first grade at any private or public school.

Our Montessori preschool and kindergarten classrooms are divided into areas of practical life, sensorial, language, math, science, geography, art, music, and motor development. Each area is designed to provide a variety of rich learning experiences that cater to the developmental needs of young children. Students develop concentration, coordination, order, and independence through sequenced activities involving step-by-step procedures. Basic concepts are initially introduced in a simple and concrete form, then later explored in more complex and abstract ways through the Montessori Method.

This year marks Miss Asha's 38th year of teaching young children; three years at local Dayton schools and 35 years at Effica! Having offered a Morning and Afternoon Session since 1988, she merged both sessions into one morning class in 2015. This allows Miss Asha to offer personalized preschool and kindergarten instruction to each student in this exclusive group, and reserves time and energy for her to pursue her other interests at this stage of life such as reading, being in nature, enjoying her pets, travel, and spending time with her grandchildren!
